A Perfect Weekend

A Perfect Weekend

Last week was a busy week.  A little bit of this, a little bit of that….

It kicked off with a birthday party…The Hurricane turned four.  It’s hard to believe it was only four years ago this adorable little girl was welcomed into the world.  It seems like it was just yesterday I held her in my arms, gazing at her as if I was holding my own baby girl 3 decades earlier.  We had a special day together, the day before her party; spent shopping, getting manicures and going out for dinner.

You never know how a four year old is going to act at their own party, but Ms. Stella was the perfect little birthday girl.  There’s nothing that warms my heart more than watching a child open gifts and be grateful for everything; art supplies, toys, clothes and even socks.  Such a proud little four year old.  Our goal for her this year is to watch a movie from start to finish.  Once she conquers that, she gets to go to Disney World.  My daughter thought that was a good challenge to get little miss ants in the pants to sit still….good luck with that my sweet daughter, I’m afraid The Hurricane is taking after her Grammie, the energizer bunny!  Here are a few pictures from the party.[shareprints gallery_id=”4280″ gallery_type=”slider” gallery_position=”pos_center” gallery_width=”width_80″ image_size=”medium” image_padding=”0″ theme=”dark” image_hover=”false” lightbox_type=”slide” titles=”true” captions=”true” descriptions=”true” comments=”true” sharing=”true”]After two weeks off at Christmas I have to admit my sofa had become quite comfortable and caused me to wonder what retirement would look like.  Days at home lolly-gagging around…I have to admit, daytime television isn’t quite as appealing now that All My Children is no longer on the air.  Work is reality for another half-decade or so… but that depends on a lot of things.  I can’t even imagine having the “retirement” discussion but since I’m in the sunset of my working years I guess it’s not something I should ignore.  But I’m the ignorance is bliss kind of woman…ignore it and it’ll go away.  Retirement is reality though and I need to have a come to Jesus on that subject sooner rather than later.  More on that to come….

I survived week 2 after my holiday sabbatical and kicked off the weekend with a girls get-together.  Friday night, friends, along with my daughter, had a happy hour at my house.  Not only are we a group of women oozing awesomeness, we also share a love for Paris after spending a few days together in the City of Lights last March.  We spent our evening enjoying good food, conversation of our time in Paris, about shopping for clothes at local boutiques along with sipping wine.  Ending a busy week with these amazing women was just what I needed.  Here’s a link to a recipe for the Rustic Hummus I posted earlier, that was a big hit at our gathering.[shareprints gallery_id=”4303″ gallery_type=”masonry” gallery_position=”pos_center” gallery_width=”width_80″ image_size=”medium” image_padding=”0″ theme=”dark” image_hover=”false” lightbox_type=”slide” titles=”true” captions=”true” descriptions=”true” comments=”true” sharing=”true”]Onto Saturday…after cleaning up after Friday night’s get-together, OBF and I ventured out to check out the new craft beer brewery south of the river.  Badger Hill Brewing Company just opened before the holidays in Shakopee, MN and feature their craft beers on tap.  You can purchase a flight and sample several or purchase a pint or half-pint of their craft specialties.  The place reminded me of a traditional German beer hall with a large group of people enjoying lively conversation while playing board games that are available on each table.  It was a no frills atmosphere but a great destination to get down to the business of beer.[shareprints gallery_id=”4294″ gallery_type=”slider” gallery_position=”pos_center” gallery_width=”width_80″ image_size=”medium” image_padding=”0″ theme=”dark” image_hover=”false” lightbox_type=”slide” titles=”true” captions=”true” descriptions=”true” comments=”true” sharing=”true”]Sunday.  The laundry fairy failed to show up so I was on my own.  You know the drill.  But it wasn’t all work and no play.  After I got a couple of loads started, bills paid…etc, I headed over to OBS’s house for dinner.  It’s not often we get upper 30 degree temperatures in Minnesota in January so we took advantage of the weather and grilled out.  Nothing like a bacon wrapped filet fresh off the grill in January.  What a treat along with some leftovers from Friday night.  A perfect ending to the weekend.

You know how some weekends go by and you feel like you didn’t get much accomplished nor did you have any fun?  Well, it was a wonderful weekend with the perfect balance of relaxation, productiveness and adventure!

This will be my last week at home before my marathon travel schedule begins.  Hopefully all work and no play won’t make this free-spirited woman a dull girl.

Have a great week!

Lynn

  • LOL, I’ll be traveling to work not traveling to write! I need to get into the groove of my new position, you know me, any change throws everything off kilter for me until the new routine sets in. I missed Top-Ten Tuesday this week and it has haunted me since. I had it written but didn’t have time to proof it. I need an editor! Thanks for the comment, have a great weekend!

  • You must be kidding, right?? When your travel schedule begins, you will not be a dull girl, as a matter of fact it will be the exact opposite!! You will have so much to write about, you will have little time to work!! Hehe!! 🙂 Travel inspires you to write, along with the all the little things that happen along the way…
